Brighton-based queer-punk trio Daffodildos are returning to Rebellion after making their debut last year. Fronted by Emily Flea (The Fleas) and Captain Jax (No See Ums), with Anni Von Flange (Boot Sale, Vanilla Giver) completing the line-up on drums, they’re certainly one of the most exciting new bands in the UK punk scene.
Read on, and get to know one of your new favourite bands!
For anyone not familiar with your music, how would you describe your sound?
Queer punk anthems, blending riot grrrl with classic anarcho punk.
If you had to recommend one of your songs to a new listener, which one would it be?
‘No Pride’, because it’s a banger. It sums us up as a band, has very important political lyrics with a catchy riff and chorus to sing along to.
You played Rebellion for the first time last year. How was that experience?
It was an incredible experience to play a stage that size to new like-minded people. It feels like we made new friends. Rebellion definitely makes you realise your worth as a musician, as they treat you well backstage also!
Are there any bands you’re particularly excited to see over the weekend?
Of course! We can’t wait to see Lene Lovich, Millie Manders and The Shutup, Subhumans, Brigandage, Blyth Power and of course Rites of Hadda. There’s so many good up-and-coming bands, check out GLU if you can!
What else are you up to this year?
A lot is happening this year! We’ve just played Bearded Theory and Glastonwick Festival. We have our first single and EP out this year! We are playing Greenbelt Festival and Blyth Power Ashes amongst smaller gigs across the country we are spreading the word with the EP release! Oh, and did we mention we are playing Rebellion on Saturday at 4:45pm on the Arena Stage. Hopefully see you there!
Daffodildos will be performing on the Arena stage on the Saturday of Rebellion Festival this year – tickets and info here.
