LOUD WOMEN followers will be aware that we love COWZ. You may even have seen them live at one of our shows or at LOUD WOMEN Fest last year. Even so you may not be fully prepared for the brilliance of their debut EP That’s Cute! Baby.

All five [songs] were written early in our friendship, and summarise our rage towards the patriarchy, capitalism and trauma disguised by various amounts of bouncy pop beats.”

The EP circles around anger and revenge; expressed violently in ‘Bad News‘ and ‘Rosalie’ (single coming 31 May), and with more humour and camp in ‘Domination’ and ‘Most Fun I’ve had in Ages’.

Live, COWZ’ performance is sassy, political, poppy and punchy. FUN is a word that is super relevant too. Often for bands it is difficult to transfer the magic of the live experience to the recorded tracks. However, in the case of COWZ, who are anything but usual, this is where the dial goes up to 11. They are also fantastically good producers. The recorded tracks conjure up a new and brilliant sound world – each one unique and equally divine. Layered, lush, intricate, interesting and immersive, with the perfect balance of space, drive and interspersed soundbites.

They say they grew up with soft grunge: Halsey, Lorde, Marina and Lana Del Rey. You can hear the influences and drama of all of these coming through in the tracks but each one is most definitely their own.

Do yourself a favour and listen to the EP – I guarantee it will be the most fun you’ve had in ages, whilst also feeling very relevant.

Catch COWZ live next month:
21 June at Prince Albert, Brighton – supporting The Bluebonnets
