Brighton based alt pop duo COWZ have brought a new level of intensity to their music with ‘Bad News’ – and it’s our #trackoftheday today!
They said it ‘is a scathing takedown of abusive men and the people that enable them’ and I feel it. It’s a feisty and catchy representation of the mood of women here and now, giving a two-fingered salute to anyone who has hurt us and continues to hurt others.
This is a song that works because of incongruences. I’m digging the sultry vibe of the synth bass and distorted vocals, contrasted by faster and complicated beats. Meaning played live this song is going to be a banger to dance to. The additional contrast of the powerful lyrics and gentle melodic vocals and harmonies means I can also sing along to it in my kitchen. What’s not to love. Brilliant job, keep em coming!
If you’re quick, you can catch their next gig on 26 March at the Hope and Ruin.
