‘Woman to Woman’ by CHROMA is the LOUD WOMEN #SingleoftheWeek #VideooftheDay and motherflipping #AnthemoftheYear. This awesome Welsh band is the best thing since sliced laverbread.
Following up to total banger Don’t Mind Me (the chosen soundtrack to all my mental health crises, currently on repeat here in the LOUD WOMEN HQ kitchen) hot new banger ‘Woman to Woman’ gives a rallying cry of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.
Coming at a time when high profile transphobes like JK Rowling are using their platform to spread hatred against our gender non-conforming communities, with putrid shockwaves rippling down even down to indie artists, like shonky crowdfund scammer Louise Distras jumping on the TERF bandwagon, it feels vitally important that up-and-coming bands like CHROMA use their growing platform to spread a positive message of intersectional feminist solidarity.
Vocalist Katie Hall tells us:
“’Woman to Woman’ is a song about allyship with the Trans and Queer communities. With the rise of TERF culture, it’s more important than ever to stand up for people from minority genders. The song is about calling out women who call themselves ‘feminists’ who actively oppress others.”
The video is filmed in one of my favourite happy places – the loos at Newport’s Le Pub, the very finest venue in the UK. The walls of those loos contain some of the all-time greatest toilet graffiti ever (perhaps even including a few bon mots from the eyeliner of your truly), and it fills my heart with joy to see an image of Le Pub’s toilet graffiti wisdom featuring on the cover art too.
Pontypridd’s finest bi-lingual alt-rock trio CHROMA blew our minds and earned our eternal loyalty with their explosive performance at last year’s LOUD WOMEN Fest. Since then, they’ve been collecting further hearts and minds at SXSW Festival and FOCUS Wales – AND they signed with the good people at Alcopop! Records earlier this year, with news of a forthcoming debut album later in 2023.
