66 Days to Your Debut

If you’ve ever watched a band on stage and wished you could give it a try yourself, you’ll be wanting to check out the 66 Days to Your Debut project – #66DD

Spearheaded by musician Ruth Miller, the project aims to help women realise their guitar (and any other instrument) dreams. Through a Facebook group offering instructional videos, and supportive live streams, members of the project are encouraged to work towards taking to the stage in just 66 days.

The project’s figureheads are a band called The Verinos – an inspiring garage punk band of women with an average age of 55. The band formed last year, and included members who’d never played instruments before, but who’d always wanted to give it a go.

In the #66DD project’s hometown of Leicester, rehearsal rooms are being filled with keen first-timer musicians as part of the project. New bands have formed, songs have been written and friendships forged. And all building towards a show planned for International Women’s Day in March.

Meanwhile in London, LOUD WOMEN has invited members of the project to take to the stage on 12 Feb at the Hope & Anchor – forming the opening acts for our regular gig, supporting Anarchistwood, Deuxes and Dinosaur Skull. Confirmed for the spot so far are Ngaire Ruth – the former NME journalist and LOUD WOMEN contributor – and Cardiff’s Judy Price.
