Delighted to bring you today the premiere of the hot new single from Sophie Mahon, ‘In a Lonely Place’.

Talking about the single, Sophie explains,

“this song takes inspiration from a 1950 Nicholas Ray film of the same name. I wanted to reflect the tension and explosive nature of the movie in the song, so the New Romantic Film Noir feel developed into a more 80s power pop thing. There is a guitar solo to replicate a car skidding round a corner and out of control, which happens in the film and it’s an awesome part of the song! (If I do say so myself).”

Her sound brings to mind Yazoo, Duran Duran and Roxy Music, with lush vocals over showy guitars and a tense synth drama. The song is taken from upcoming album Bogart’s Eyes, slated for 1 October, where each song song is inspired by one of Humphrey Bogart’s films and features guest musicians Emily Dolan-Davies (Bryan Ferry, Kim Wilde, The Thompson Twins), Martin Dobson (Eurythmics, Jimmy Sommerville and Siouxie & the Banshees).

10% of physical release sales will go towards Cancer Research UK and Royal Navy & Royal Marine Charity and the album was funded by public funding from The National Lottery through Art Council England.
