Ms Mohammed is gearing up to blow our minds at this year's LOUD WOMEN Fest on 15 Sept. We asked her some questions first ...
Ms Mohammed! We LOVED single ‘Pandora’. Tell us all about the song – what’s it about, how did you record it, and what’s the story behind the awesome video?
It’s about celebrating the divine present in ALL of us! Femininity is still derided in all cultures, still synonymous with weakness, I honestly believe celebrating the feminine would bring about the revolution that is so desperately needed. The video continues with the theme of the lyrics and includes representing femmeness in all forms and genders.
When it comes to recording, I demo tracks before I take them to the studio (because I’m massive control freak about the sound) which is why I play all the instruments on the demo and almost all on the record. Lol! Except drums I got Daisy Palmer in to add her expertise and distinctive flourishes to my demo drum loops and grooves.
We are SO looking forward to welcoming to LW Fest after last year’s performance at Matchwomen! How do you feel you’ve grown/changed/developed as a performer in the year that’s passed?
Thank you so much for having me again! I’ve had an interesting year! A real emotional roller coaster, lots of big changes personally and lots of therapy but best of all, some insane validation from some of my idols recently! Namely Iggy Pop playing ‘Pandora’ on his BBC 6 show, along with his effusive praise. I’m still in shock really, it’s the ultimate validation from a total don of punk rock! You can’t help but be more sure of yourself when Iggy approves! Give thanks! Hopefully that translates into more self confident performances and therefore more fun for the audience.

What can we look forward to from Ms Mohammed – any recording plans? Touring? World domination?
I’m eager to get back into the studio to record new songs! I would love to tour Europe and Yes please to World Domination, which for me means sharing platforms, pulling others up and solidarity with femme artists of colour. World Domination for us all!
Who are you looking forward to seeing play at Loud Women Fest?
OMG so many but Dream Nails, Sister Ghost and Art Trip and the Static Sound! Melodie is a formidable badass on stage! Loved her and the band since having them on at Clit Rock [the female-focussed festival run by Ms Mohammed in aid of anti-FGM charities].

Tell us anything else you think it’s important we know about you/your music!
We live in times of rising xenophobia, hate crimes and general far right fukry! Immigrants, POC and people of muslim heritage are being vilified by mainstream press, powerful politicians and media personalities. Much of this is going unchecked and it is really worrying. It’s the reason I started performing under my real last name. We all need to do what we can, be LOUD, be the solution, lead by example and maybe just maybe we can change paths to something more harmonious and soon…
