LA native, Nashville-based singer and songwriter, Mara Connor, released a single, ‘Joe’, an excellent summer soundtrack that describes a failed romance with a man-child.
Sang in her soulful, if a bit melancholy, vocals, Connor muses on a relationship with an individual who was charming but lacked maturity and integrity, while being twice her age. A profoundly universal experience, as Connor says:
“Most young women have a ‘Joe’ in their rearview mirror. This song is for them.”

Production incorporates a dreamy mellotron, creating an ethereal, vintage sound reminiscent of Mazzy Star. The music video is 60s-inspired and was directed by Connor’s filmmaker mother, Kate Connor.
The track has a warm, careless summer breeziness to it, despite telling a story about a deeply flawed person. If you focus solely on Connor’s soft and caring voice, it evokes a fuzzy feeling of falling asleep in an orchard on a hot, sunny day.
