Ships In The Night - Alethea Leventhal 'Inside' video still

Ships In The Night, an electronic, goth solo project by Althea Leventhal, based in NYC, shares a music video for ‘Inside’, a sanctuary of a song, offering solace and comfort in tumultuous, dark times. It is a single from her third LP, Protection Spells, produced by Metropolis Records.

“This song is about looking for feelings of safety and comfort in a world that is out of our control,” explains Leventhal. “It’s about finding places where you can just exist and be yourself. It’s about nurturing community, lifting up queer spaces and reaching for utopia.”

Just like the record’s title, the darkwave synth-pop track has a magical, mysterious vibe to it. In ‘Inside’, Leventhal’s haunting voice iterates the phrase “warm seen found” just as if she is casting a spell. The instrumental has Ships In The Night’s distinctive synth beats, bringing an 80s flair to the sound. The music video with phantasmagorical imagery and a slightly unsettling, but very fitting archival footage of flora growing and unfurling leaves you mesmerised.

The next Ships In The Night live show will take place on 27th June as part of NYC Pride at Pianos on the Lower East Side. Tickets are available here.
