West Cornwall bubblegum punk songwriter Nell Davies releases new single ‘Never Wrestle With a Pig’ today. It’s a hilarious acoustic ode to the fine art of not wasting your time on idiots. I need to listen to it every time I’m tempted to engage with a keyboard warrior.
Written after blocking someone on social media for the first time, the song is built around a surprisingly profound piece of life advice. As Nell explains:
“Maturity is realising you don’t have to turn up to every fight you’re invited to. You can simply walk away and write a passive-aggressive song calling your enemies pigs.”
Within seconds, she’s delivered what might be the best opening verse I’ve heard all year:
Never wrestle with a pig
You’ll both get dirty but the pig enjoys it
Never wrestle with a pig
Cos even if you win you’ll both be covered in shit
Born in Liverpool and now based in West Cornwall, Nell records her music, aptly, in a converted pigsty.
The track is the final single from her EP The End of the World or Whatever, and you can catch Nell live at the LOUD WOMEN Rebellion warm-up show at the Windmill Brixton on 2 August.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to not reply to somebody who’s wrong on the internet.
