Yorkshire-based musician Fiona-Lee explores the complexities of young womanhood on her second EP, Every Woman. Through introspective lyrics and heartfelt vocals, Fiona-Lee reaches out with a message of finding strength within yourself despite the insecurities and expectations placed upon you.
“This EP is about being a young woman today. It explores the internal spiralling that can take hold when navigating heavy relationships and the insecurities shaped by the expectations placed on women. Importantly, it’s about pushing through those discomforts to reach moments of peace – not backing down, and fighting for yourself even when it’s hard. Writing these songs was my way of processing the challenges and confrontations I’ve faced in my own life, and I hope people can hear elements of themselves reflected in the songs and feel less alone in their own struggles.”

Alongside releasing Every Woman, Fiona-Lee shares the focus track ‘Rational’, which dives into the issue of anxiety while taking a lighter approach to a heavy subject.
“‘Rational’ explores the experience of living with anxiety, especially the awareness of how others might perceive you in moments when your thoughts feel completely out of control. I wrote it when I was struggling with health anxiety – the fear was so immediate and physical that any sense of logic disappeared and it’s only with hindsight that I can see how irrational my thinking was. While writing it, I wanted to contrast that heaviness with something lighter and bring a sense of fun energy into the track as a way of pushing back against that overwhelming panic. I wanted to capture a feeling of joy, release and carelessness that I didn’t feel capable of at the time.”
