Canada’s Ora Cogan just dropped a brilliant ethereal new single, ‘Division’.
This song is the release we all needed in these trying times: a plea to go against the cruelty and somewhat bleakness that has become so normal today. She reprises ‘Please don’t listen / Don’t give into Division’.
The entire soundscape of this song is folky, rocky, cinematic and a little spooky. An introspective song touching on the somber feelings most of us have today, but it’s important to persevere, and keep your heart open. There are still people listening.
This single is accompanied by dazzling visuals: a music video directed by Ora Cogan, Micah Henry & Paloma Ruiz-Hernandez. The video is described as ‘old world, horror meets fantasy’, and is filmed in black and white.
Commenting on the video, Cogan says: “This video was filmed in Lilloet. There are three beings in this realm. The Human, The Oracle and The Demon. The Human is wrestling internally in a lonely world. They seek liberation from the torment inside. The Demon is the embodiment of the worst inclinations of the human. The oracle is the storyteller, urging the human to find understanding, to find a way through the internal battle.”
‘Division’ is the second single from her fourthcoming album, ‘Hard Hearted Woman’, out March 13th. We can expect more psychadelic rock songs with a country twist, with sharp lyrics and ethereal vocal lines, from an album that gives us the message: stay open, even when the world makes that feel impossible.
