London-based Welsh songwriter Elli Glyn‘s latest single ‘Don’t Let Go’ is out now.

Starting strong with acoustic piano backing, the pop-style melody showcases Glyn’s clever lyric writing and syllable play. Despite the chorus consisting of a one-line refrain, the 21-year-olds’ use of instrumentation creates intrigue and keeps the song feeling fresh and intimate. Combined with the vocal inflections and juxtaposition of staccato and legato lines, the piece has an interesting mix of homophony and polyphony that begs to be listened to on repeat.

Overall, the song reminds me of Adele’s ‘Skyfall’. So I think that Glyn really did hit the nail on the head with this anthem of a pop ballad.
