Canada’s Shiv and the Carvers have released their highly anticipated sophomore EP, Tell Me You Love Me Again, available now on Twin Fang Records. A collection showcasing the band’s evolution while staying true to their raw, energetic punk sound.

Vocalist Shiv Scott delves into themes of vulnerability and emotional growth throughout the EP.

“Tell Me You Love Me Again is all about the flurry of emotions that come with accepting and processing love – both self-love and falling in love. I was writing about the events happening in my life at the time – falling in love, a close friendship ending, self-reflection, my anger, and betrayal. It was therapeutic to put what was in my head into a piece of art to yell out into the world,”shares Scott.

First track ‘Bully’ is a confrontational anthem where Scott flips the script on accusers, defiantly proclaiming “I’ll be the villain in your story” while exposing hypocrisy and false narratives.

‘Danger Girl’ is a queer love song about falling in love with a woman that you know is out of your league. vocalist Shiv Scott shared of the track.

The track and its video are heavily influenced by Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, ‘Danger Girl’s’ video kicks off with the band getting a strict pep talk by their manager played by Canadian rock ‘n’ roll icon Bif Naked about their next big show.

“The ‘Danger’ is the gamble of getting your heart broken, but knowing that it’s worth every bit of pain. I was very inspired by Wheatus’s ‘Teenage Dirtbag,’ blink-182’s ‘Josie,’ and other ’90s/2000s songs about women who are out of the singer’s league.” Scott shared of the track.

‘Meltdown’ captures the raw vulnerability of emotional collapse with visceral imagery of “leaking fluid” and “exceeding limits,” perfectly capturing the overwhelming sensation of losing control.

The EP’s focus track, ‘I Want It All’ is a frenetic exploration of insatiable desire, with Scott’s razor-sharp lyrics addressing the compulsive need for instant gratification, whether through substances, sweets, or intimacy and the cyclical pattern of consumption that follows.

“I Want It All is about consumption as compulsion to fill the void inside. It’s self-reflection about myself and my consumption habits. Food, candy, weed, love, sex – all things that I’ve used in the past to distract myself from my feelings. I sometimes get in these moods where I need to just consume something, anything really – I’ll eat when I’m not hungry, or smoke weed when I’m bored, or have another drink when I really just want to go home. This song is a cathartic way for me to stop ignoring those feelings and deal with them instead of pushing them down with food, weed, etc.” – Shiv Scott

This EP is for fans of 90s alternative punk. You can hear Hole and L7 and following on the Scott Pilgrim theme, Plumtree.

Two interesting facts about the band. Firstly, bassist Annie Jane Marie was in Dilly Dally who were great and sadly missed by me.

Secondly Shiv and the Carvers were picked to support Lambrini Girls on their recent stop off in Toronto. During their show, Phoebe Lambrini’s strings broke and Shiv’s guitarist Nicole kindly offered her guitar up so Phoebe could finish their show.
