London Queer-feminist trio Glorybox is ending the year strong by pulling out a torch against the oncoming darkness. With their latest track, ‘Shadows,’ bandmates Daisy, Jessie, and Kae are shining a light on biphobia and the internal turmoil it can cause. Glorybox uses tight vocal harmonies and dark rock undertones to guide listeners through a murky journey of dark and light.

Glorybox released ‘Shadows’ on 6 December 2024 after a residency at Britten Pears Arts. Lulling you back to the 90s with soothing croons and sharp synths, Glorybox uses seemingly upbeat dance notes to challenge harmful social norms.

When asked about the meaning behind their song, Lead singer Daisy says:

Shadows explores the painful experience of not being seen for who you truly are by some of the people you love. Playing with Glorybox means so much to me not just because we are close friends and collaborators, but also because we explore meaningful experiences related to our gender and sexuality including issues of bi erasure and cis/heteronormativity. We hope this means something to some of our listeners too!’

‘Shadows’ is one for synth pop lovers of Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)’.

“I begin to move in

just the way you want me to

and just like that

I hold that chain”

Lyrics from ‘Shadows’ by Glorybox

Glorybox doesn’t just talk the talk, they walk it. When not singing their hearts out, the London three-piece supports under-represented groups by volunteering/organizing with grassroots charity Girls Rock London. Stay up to date on their socials to get your chance to hear ‘Shadows,’ live!
