Some artists make brilliant music. Others make the music scene itself a better place. MIRI does both, and we’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming her back to a LOUD WOMEN stage on Wednesday 4 November at The Bread & Roses in Clapham. đź’‹

If you’ve been coming to LOUD WOMEN gigs and Fests over the years, you’ll already know MIRI. She’s played for us more times than we can count, been a wonderful supporter of everything we do, and is very much part of the LOUD WOMEN family. We love her to bits.

Soulful rebel pop with something to say

MIRI has one of the most distinctive voices in the independent music scene. Warm, smoky, soulful and instantly recognisable, it’s the sort of voice that can fill a room while making every person in it feel as though she’s singing just for them.

Her music blends beautiful pop melodies with thoughtful, outspoken songwriting, addressing everything from personal relationships and identity to political injustice and the challenges we face in an increasingly difficult world.

There’s tenderness in her songs, but there’s also defiance. Her recent single ‘Freedom Is The Purpose’ is a particularly powerful example, pairing her unmistakable voice with an unapologetic message about freedom, resistance and solidarity.

MIRI has performed everywhere from Brighton Pride and the Southbank Centre to the 100 Club and Greenbelt Festival, with her music receiving support from BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC London, Radio X and countless independent stations.

But we’re especially proud of the part she’s played in our own little corner of the music world.

MIRI was one of the 64 voices on LOUD WOMEN’s ‘Reclaim These Streets’, our fundraising single for Women’s Aid, and was among the artists who helped make LOUD WOMEN Fest 2021 such a special day.

Helping other people find their voices

One of the things we love most about MIRI is that her commitment to music goes far beyond her own performances.

She’s a passionate advocate for making music accessible, particularly to people who haven’t traditionally been given the same opportunities to participate.

Through her Find Your Voice workshops and creative mentoring, MIRI helps people discover their voices, build confidence and explore their creativity. And yes, she really does help people find their voices in the most literal sense, through vocal workshops designed to make singing welcoming and accessible.

Her work has included projects with Spark The Noise, formerly Girls Rock London, First Timers Fest, Somerset House, Attitude is Everything and numerous other arts and community organisations.

She’s also an ambassador for The F-List, which champions women and gender-diverse musicians, and sits on the Artist Council of the Featured Artists Coalition, advocating for musicians’ rights and a fairer music industry.

She’s even part of the LOUD WOMEN team, contributing her experience and enthusiasm to the collective.

We love artists who give something back to the scene, who make room for other people and who understand that a thriving music community is about far more than individual success.

MIRI embodies all of that.

Catch MIRI at The Bread & Roses

On Wednesday 4 November, she’ll be joining two more treasured members of the LOUD WOMEN family: Charley Stone, whose brilliantly witty songwriting and extraordinary guitar skills have made her a London indie legend, and x-blu, bringing distinctive, adventurous avant-garde post-punk.

Three completely different artists, all wonderfully talented, all excellent humans. We really couldn’t ask for a lovelier lineup.

And where better to bring them together than the brilliant female-run, union-owned Bread & Roses in Clapham?
