It is now just over five weeks until LOUD WOMEN Fest lands in Toronto for the very first time.
On Friday 6 November we’re taking over Baby G with artists coming together from Québec, Toronto, Calgary, Buffalo, Chicago and London, plus one special guest who is still staying firmly under wraps for now.
This has been a long time coming. LOUD WOMEN has been building friendships and connections across Canada for years, and after taking the Fest to Nova Scotia, getting a Toronto edition off the ground felt like the obvious next adventure.
Now it’s actually happening.
Who’s playing?
Enfants Sauvages are coming from Québec with ferocious Francophone punk-garage-hardcore, distortion very much included.
I, Doris are crossing the Atlantic from London with their particular brand of international menopunk.
Chicago’s Iris Marlowe brings gothic country steeped in horror, grunge and all things dark.
Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist Morgan-Paige builds huge theatrical worlds from darkwave, experimental music, opera and noise.
Calgary’s SHY FRiEND make emotional alt-pop with a full-band sound and gloriously big ideas.
Stress Dolls are crossing the border from Buffalo, with songwriter Chelsea O’Donnell bringing sharp-edged alternative rock to Baby G.
And Toronto’s own Sunlust bring the grunge, punk and garage rock, with a fiercely DIY approach to everything they do.
Plus one more artist still to be revealed.
If there are names there you don’t know yet, excellent. That’s half the point. Get some listening homework done now, then come and discover your new favourite artist in a room full of people doing exactly the same thing.
Our first Toronto Fest
What makes these Fests exciting isn’t just putting a pile of bands on a poster. It’s connecting scenes.
We’ve got artists travelling hundreds and thousands of miles to play alongside brilliant local musicians, with a Toronto crew helping make the whole thing happen on the ground.
That is exactly what we want LOUD WOMEN Fest to be: artists amplifying each other, audiences taking a chance on bands they haven’t seen before, and DIY communities connecting across cities and countries.
And yes, we are extremely excited about this one.
