Some bands become part of the soundtrack to a city. Dressy Bessy have been doing exactly that for Denver since the 1990s, and we’re absolutely delighted to welcome them to the first ever LOUD WOMEN Fest Colorado at the Fox Theatre in Boulder on Saturday 7 November.
Led by the brilliant Tammy Ealom, Dressy Bessy have spent three decades making irresistibly catchy, colourful indie rock, blending power-pop melodies, crunchy guitars and just the right amount of attitude.
Emerging from Denver’s independent music scene in 1996, the band became associated with the influential Elephant 6 collective, alongside acts including The Apples in Stereo. Their music has travelled far beyond Colorado, finding fans internationally and even making its way onto the soundtrack of the cult queer classic But I’m a Cheerleader, which featured their songs ‘Just Like Henry’ and ‘If You Should Try to Kiss Her’.
From their 1999 debut album Pink Hearts Yellow Moons to the punchier sounds of later releases, Dressy Bessy have always done things their own way, combining a fiercely independent spirit with songs that stick in your head for days.
And that’s exactly why we love them.
We’re particularly excited to have such an important part of Colorado’s musical history sharing the stage with newer DIY artists and visiting bands from across the USA, Mexico and the UK.
