Los Angeles-based riot grrrl/punk band Sour Tongue share ‘Company Karaoke Party’, the soundtrack to our Friday.
Formed in 2020 by Satori Marill and John Murphy, Sour Tongue keep it real on their latest track, with thrashing guitars and frenzied energy. Marill shares:
“I was inspired to write this song by the absurd lengths I’ve witnessed people go to uphold a lie. The onus of determining whether you should sympathise with ‘me’ throughout the song is placed solely on the listener because I’m an unreliable narrator by design.”
The perfect soundtrack as we close out the work week, Marill adds that the track is “one big contradiction constructed by moments of low-stakes vulnerability, guilt-tripping, gaslighting and callous apathy. If it sounds silly, that’s because it is. ‘Company Karaoke Party’ is a mandatory performance to save face with middle management, it’s entitlement without sacrifice, but above all else it’s meant to make you wanna dance!”
