Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and producer Julia Gartha releases her new EP, California’s Killing Me.
As a backing vocalist, Gartha is currently on the road with Harry Styles on the Together, Together Tour. Her credits include work with Daniel Caesar, Chappell Roan (SNL), Olivia Rodrigo (Tiny Desk) and Sabrina Carpenter (Coachella), showcasing her range as both a live and studio performer. She has also written songs for Jonita Gandhi, Ariza and Janani K. Jha.
Turning back to her own songwriting, California’s Killing Me reflects a personal chapter in Gartha’s life in Los Angeles, written during a period of uncertainty. The EP explores the tension of loving and resenting a place you call home, the ache of homesickness, the comfort of the familiar and the urge to flee it all. Caught between chasing a dream and questioning her place in it, Gartha explores these conflicting feelings across a blend of pop, indie and folk. The EP was co-written and produced with Caleb Dee.
“‘California’s Killing Me’ is ultimately about being caught between the life you have, the life you miss, and the life you’re still trying to build.”
Julia Gartha
Bright vocals, catchy melodies and heartfelt songwriting run throughout California’s Killing Me. With plenty more of her own story to tell, we can’t wait to see what’s next for Julia Gartha.
