Multifaceted producer, artist and DJ Pool Girl, the solo project of California native Allie Nixon, releases her debut album Melancholic Beach Town.
Raised in the small beach town of Carpinteria, CA, Nixon’s musical DNA comes from her dad’s Beatles, Beach Boys and British Invasion records, alongside a later obsession with 2010s indie acts including Passion Pit, MGMT, Gorillaz, Beach House and Tame Impala. That mix comes through in Pool Girl’s sound, where carefree coastal nostalgia meets a melancholic edge.
Co-produced and written entirely by Nixon, Melancholic Beach Town is a coming-of-age album exploring uncertainty, growth, friendships and the experience of navigating your twenties. The album looks back on the town where Nixon grew up, bringing together memories of her childhood with the reality of moving into a different chapter of life.
Nixon shares that the album is “about me and my life and the town that I grew up in, going back to that beach town and having it hold so many memories, and for that life to feel so far away now in a lot of ways.”
On her debut, Pool Girl takes us on a reflective trip to Melancholic Beach Town, a landmark on a map that’s still unfolding.
