Meet the lineup
Alanna Matty
Alanna Matty is a Halifax-based singer-songwriter, producer and live streamer whose music moves between alt-folk, indie and pop. Her emotionally rich songwriting comes wrapped in lush arrangements and big harmonies, while her live performances make extensive use of looping. Her latest album Epilogue continues the story begun on Subject to Change.
Altered by Mom
Toronto trio Altered by Mom bring sharp, hugely catchy alternative rock with plenty of grit, humour and hooks. Gina Kennedy, Devon Lougheed and Max Trefler have taken their high-energy live show across Canada and internationally, including Europe and Japan, with debut album BETTER landing in 2025. Gina also has Nova Scotia roots, making their Halifax appearance something of a homecoming.
Amygdala Hijack
Halifax’s Amygdala Hijack are a queer femme/enby punk trio mixing hardcore, ska, pop-punk and folk influences with heavy riffs and even heavier feelings. Formed in late 2025, the fiercely DIY band write their own material and handle production, mixing and mastering themselves.
Burry
Burry is an independent queer pop artist from Halifax whose music pulls together pop, indie and rock with intensely personal songwriting. They’ve toured Eastern Canada, appeared at festivals including NXNE and played LOUD WOMEN stages on both sides of the Atlantic. Burry also helped make our first Halifax Fest so special, so we’re delighted to have them back for round two.
Freya Milliken
Award-winning Halifax singer-songwriter Freya Milliken blends folk and indie rock around a rich voice and beautifully direct songwriting. Her debut EP Wholeheartedly explored queer love, longing and joy, and her live CV already includes the ECMAs, Winnipeg Folk Festival, Folk Music Ontario and Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival.
Penny & The Pits
Penny & The Pits are an East Coast queer femme powerhouse dealing in surf, punk, garage and experimental rock. Their debut album Liquid Compactor channels feminist joy, rage and revenge into a gloriously vicious, funny and celebratory punk-rock world. Expect them to take up space.
SALTLAMP
Halifax DIY duo SALTLAMP make music from queer and trans joy, fury, love and resistance. Their 2025 debut album I Dreamed You Loaned Me Your Telekinetic Powers moves between punk, alternative, electronic and pop, capturing both the sweetness and ferocity of queer love in dangerous times.
You might already have heard them soundtracking our Halifax radio advert on CKDU with the brilliant ‘Serrated Little Teeth’.
Shoulder Season
Dartmouth’s Shoulder Season formed when four women came together to make music rooted in friendship, feminism and DIY community. Their synth-driven songs draw on punk, indie rock and pop, pairing huge hooks with a critical eye on the systems shaping the world around us.
Warlet
Brazilian-born, Halifax-based Warlet is a singer, rapper, beatboxer and producer bringing something completely different to this year’s bill. Her music moves through hip hop, emo rap, trap, urban Latin and R&B, with deeply personal lyrics and an unmistakably individual voice. Before moving to Canada, she also made her mark in the beatbox world as a Latin American female champion.
We, Cassie
We, Cassie complete a lineup deliberately built to jump between sounds, scenes and styles. That breadth is exactly what LOUD WOMEN Fest is about: great artists do not need to fit neatly into one genre box to belong on the same stage.
