Coming on the heels of a high-profile joint signing with Republic Records and Spinefarm, the release marks a lightning-fast transition from viral car recorded demos to major label powerhouse. Showing Teeth effortlessly navigates between bone rattling deathcore to clear as glass melodies. The record channels themes of self-preservation and emotional reckoning into a sound that feels somehow both mathematically precise and wildly unpredictable.
The debut single, ‘Labyrinth’ creates tension through contrast. The track delves into themes of self-acceptance and people pleasing with frantic verses loaded with raw, guttural outbursts that shift into a soaring ethereal chorus. ‘Labyrinth,’ while the second song on the EP, stands out as the sonic thesis statement for A Fate Worse Than Loneliness. It sets up a core emotional struggle that runs through the rest of the EP. The opening lines launch directly into total emotional exposure:

A standout track on the EP, ‘Rip’ leans heavily into deathcore intensity. It’s an aggressive, visceral centerpiece driven by chaotic down-tuned riffing and volatile rhythmic shifts. The arrangement of ‘Rip’ really hinges on Showing Teeth’s speed and range, snapping rapidly between low-end growls and desperate, high register shrieks. It’s truly impressive how she uses her voice almost like a percussion instrument over the heavy instrumentation of the track.
One of my favorites from the EP, ‘Paradigm’ serves as the emotional, cinematic closer of A Fate Worse Than Loneliness. It deliberately steps away from the chaotic breakdowns that dominate the rest of the EP to highlight Showing Teeth’s melodic storytelling. Rather than beginning immediately with gutturals, ‘Paradigm’ is ushered in by an interlude (‘A&Ox1’) that features an almost motherly voice, creating an intimate feeling, stripping away the heavy production polish and going for a more raw, reflective atmosphere. ‘Paradigm’ is the light at the end of the tunnel, a shift from the anger and bleak feelings to acceptance and a shift in perspective, quite literally a paradigm shift. This track is a strategic sampler of Showing Teeth’s versatility, proving that her songwriting carries just as much weight in a broad, melodic anthem as it does inside a crushing deathcore pit.
