Linda MacLeod has spent a lifetime in and around the music industry. She was born and raised in Nova Scotia among nine other talented siblings. Starting with early performances in school, radio contests, regional TV appearances and a special performance at Glace Bay’s Miners Museum, MacLeod went on to write jingles, perform with ensembles and even write a song for The Bay Boy.
When MacLeod became a parent, her career took her into healthcare leadership, but music always remained a part of her life. After an audition for Canada’s Got Talent, Linda MacLeod was invited into the Dreamcatcher’s Song Circle and Songwriter’s Workshop in 2023, beginning a brave new era in her career.
Now, at age 75, Linda MacLeod brings us the heartfelt and wistful song, ‘I Tried To Get Through’. She says the song blossomed after talking to friends who had recently lost their daughter. The track reminds us not to take for granted what we feel we may always have.
Folk instruments including mandolin, violin and acoustic guitar support MacLeod’s authentic delivery, while the 6/8 metre suggests a relaxed swing on a screened front porch. The track seems to grow from the intersection of early folk and country, showing that there is still room for traditional music in today’s landscape.
