As an ambassador for UNICEF, Melanie first performed the folk lullaby ‘All The Pretty Little Horses’ on her early 1970s tour. Though on the surface the song appears to quiet and soothe, the rarely-heard second verse reminds us of the vast wealth inequality that still permeates the developed world. Witch Of The Vale worked with Melanie to give this historic performance a second life.
The song opens with a compressed and slightly distorted vocal, belying the carefree nature of the lyrics. Layers of piano, strings, and vocal textures help to set the scene.
Witch Of The Vale are a Scottish duo specializing in meditative, drone or ethereal music.
