Before half the punk world decamps to Blackpool, LOUD WOMEN is bringing seven of the bands heading to Rebellion Festival together at The Windmill, Brixton, on Sunday 2 August.

The five-hour Rebellion Festival London Preview runs from 5–10pm, with bands from London, Newcastle, Cornwall, Liverpool, New York, Los Angeles and Australia crammed into one of our favourite grassroots venues. Tickets are £10, which works out at a frankly ridiculous £1.43 per band.

Breakup Haircut

Sometimes pop, sometimes punk, always loaded with boppin’ basslines, sharp humour and painfully relatable lyrics. Breakup Haircut are firmly rooted in London’s DIY scene and know how to make a room feel like a party without sanding down any of their edges.

Gaydar

Newcastle’s self-described “radgey, chaotic, catchy” queer punk trio turn fury, politics and the occasional stolen kidney into songs you can dance to. Their latest single, ‘Christ I Need A Piss’, takes aim at the trans bathroom debate with wit, rage and an extremely necessary refusal to shut up.

I, Doris

Menopunk pop-tarts delivering big tunes, radical kindness and zero tolerance for fascists. Expect catchy songs about bodies, ageing, cowboys, lesbians and whatever else the current pick-and-mix Doris lineup has decided the world needs to hear.

Nell Davies

Bubblegum punk with riot grrrl bite, jangly indie-pop hooks and lyrics balancing sharp humour with bittersweet storytelling. Nell Davies makes songs that sound bright enough to bounce around to, even when the words are quietly breaking your heart.

Mona Freaka

Teen riot grrrls from Woodstock, New York, bringing glorious next-generation energy across the Atlantic. They have hooks, attitude and the kind of confidence that suggests the future of punk is doing absolutely fine without anyone’s permission.

Whoremones

Politically charged riot grrrl punk from Los Angeles, taking on social expectations, power and all the usual patriarchal rubbish with passion and purpose. Loud, direct and very ready for both Brixton and Blackpool.

Witch Spit

No-apologies riot grrrl punk from Australia: one band, two wives and a considerable amount of noise. They are travelling a very long way to play, so turning up early feels like the least London can do.

This is your chance to catch the LOUD WOMEN Rebellion contingent up close before they head north to take over the Introducing Stage at Blackpool Winter Gardens the following weekend. Seven bands, five hours and no filler.

See you down the front.
