Rising London-based singer-songwriter ARI LEE shares new single, ‘Expiration Date’.
On her latest track, ARI LEE explores the pressures of time and expectations, and the ridiculous standards of beauty that are older than time itself, alongside the roles within dating and the race against “expiration dates”. The loud ticking of the clock built by society fades against ARI LEE’s bold guitar riffs, heart-pounding drums and in-your-face lyrics.
“Expiration Date” truly reflects the “invisible hand of time, something that is especially unforgiving for women. I wrote ‘Expiration Date’ as a result of dating someone much older, who seemed blissfully unscathed by time pressure, and comparing it to my own experience coming from a more traditional culture. Why am I surpassing my ‘peak’ and he’s just a ‘late bloomer’? Why am I subject to the constant ring of the clock while he’s just getting started? I can’t help but resent every expiration date forced on me.”
