Since forming in 2024, the Dundalk/Dublin glam-punk quartet Needy Pet have been steadily making a name for themselves. They are part of a wave of DIY bands defined by social commitment and a distinctly feminist ethos. Their engagement goes beyond protest: the band actively participates in mental health events, and their debut single, ‘Mental Health’, openly advocates therapy and self-care while calling out systemic shortcomings.
Their third track, ‘Boring To Me’, follows in the footsteps of earlier releases, embodying the combative spirit that defines them. This time, they take aim at apathy in a truly screwed-up world, and frankly, they have a point.

Clocking in at just two minutes, the song wastes no time getting to the point, which is precisely what makes it feel so relentless. The deliberately simple, repetitive guitar riff sits closer to Panic Shack‘s protest punk than Bikini Kill‘s rawer edge, functioning as a rhythmic driver that amplifies the message without tipping into aggression. There’s also a noticeable groove, one that owes as much to Suzi Quatro‘s rock ‘n’ roll swagger as it does to riot grrrl. The result lands in that sweet spot where punk attitude meets glam and garage energy.
Frontwoman Jenny Q‘s charisma is undeniable, as is her instinct for performance. She moves effortlessly between the physical energy of glam-inflected rock ‘n’ roll, sharp melodic hooks, and near spoken-word passages that feel right at home within today’s DIY punk landscape.
‘Monotrance’ says it all in a single word. This isn’t just about ignorance, but about the conscious choice to look away: from social disengagement to political apathy, and ultimately to something more unsettling. Not knowing where you end and others begin, following the herd into hell becomes the easiest option.
“These days the world is on fire, but it’s the only present we have. We have to keep going, keep fighting and keep learning. Don’t settle for boring, get educated!” (Jenny Q)
‘Boring To Me’ stands as a confident statement of intent from a band that knows exactly what it stands for. Their upcoming anti-war single, ‘No Soul’, suggests they still have plenty to say and plenty of firepower left. Thank goodness.
