London six-piece Man/Woman/Chainsaw just announced their debut album Cannonball with ‘Nosedive’ – a bold, near six-minute statement that sees the band pushing well beyond their art-punk beginnings.
It’s a slow burn banger, that vocalist Emmie-Mae describes:
“about longing for both comfort and freedom simultaneously in a relationship through the metaphor of being an injured bird needing shelter. We turned it into a danceable upbeat track, which made the tone shift throughout the song as though you find a way to pick yourself up and fly away.”
It also signals something bigger about Cannonball as a whole. Recorded with Seth Evans and Margo Broom, the album promises a more ambitious, widescreen sound. For a band that formed as teenagers in a converted vicarage, this feels like a serious step forward. A sharpening of intent.
