Child of Night – photo by Alice Teeple

Columbus/Brooklyn-based experimental, dream pop duo, Child of Night (C.O.N), holds no punches on their swirling new single, ‘Old Moons’.

Spinning on an emotional carousel, ‘Old Moons’ magnifies the repetitive anguish of a heartache on loop. Heavily electronic and pining for a love long gone, this track is as brutal as it is quick. Clocking in at just under 3 minutes, ‘Old Moons’ is brief but leaves a lingering pang for those who stay for only a season in your life and leave a thorny absence in their wake.

“Here we were embracing quirk, fun, joy and grief, sharing with immediacy this moment in time. We are riding the line crossing over into that dark place where you don’t want to go but because you are emotionally so down, you do, and it’s really hard to explain how dark it is, but you are still trying to carry on.”

– Niabi, one half of the (C.O.N) duo

With a dash of 80s punk feel and a sprinkling of shoegaze, Child of Night capture something utterly human and cathartic on ‘Old Moons’. They plan to release their next album, Conspiracy, on 15 May, and I can’t wait to see what new and haunting tracks they will conjure for us.
