Best Ex, the indie-pop project of Mariel Loveland, shares ‘Losing Streak’, the latest single and video from her forthcoming sophomore album, Good Girl, out 6 November via Iodine Recordings.
‘Losing Streak’ captures the realisation that not everything is within our control, reflecting the album’s coming-of-adulthood themes and its message of finding your way through the chaos of life.
“’Losing Streak’ is a song about doing the best you possibly can with the cards you’ve been dealt. Life doesn’t always turn out the way you planned and bad things do happen, but I think being a happy and fulfilled person is all about ‘sifting for gold’ in the mess.

Worrying about the things you can’t control does not actually change them or make your life better. This song is about relinquishing that control and trying to find happiness even when times are hard.”
The accompanying DIY music video was filmed in and around Hoboken, New Jersey, with the help of Loveland’s twin sister while she was on maternity leave. Loveland reflects: “It was really one of those things, where you just realize women can do anything.”
They worked through the summer heat, carrying their own equipment, and her sister was also carrying and operating gear while wearing two breast pumps. The video captures the message behind ‘Losing Streak’: finding joy in the unknown, despite the chaos.
“In a way, it felt like we were kids again, just making silly things in our room or messing around like when we were freshly 22 and living in our first apartment downtown.”
