Canadian alt-indie music force, Loviet, has released her long awaited EP, DEBUTANTE. Her prior EP The Nighttime Is All In The Timing earned the artist Music Nova Scotia’s Rock Recording of the Year and Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards. Written and produced by Loviet, this new five-track offering is the most rock-driven and bold piece of art from her yet. The sonically expansive and emotionally charged EP was recorded at coveted studio Fang Recording, owned by Joel Plaskett in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The work was mixed by Ian Docherty (guitarist of Juno award-winning band July Talk) and Bradley Hale (producer/drummer of American indie-rock band Now, Now).

Loviet led the EP release in September 2025 with grunge single, ‘STIFFY,’ which quickly became a fan-favorite after powerhouse performances at Chicago’s Riot Fest and LOUD WOMEN’s own fest in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Glam-punk single, ‘CHEERLEADER’ came next, followed by the emotional ‘PLUSH,’ which has an intense bridge that makes Loviet’s vocals truly shine. The fourth single, ‘EXPLOSURE,’ features percussion-heavy beats and punk-rock energy that Loviet is known for in her live performances. With this new EP, Loviet is further bridging the gap between her praised live shows and recorded catalog.

The artist titled the project after the final single, ‘DEBUTANTE,’ which nods to the traditional meaning of the word and the artist’s non-conformative approach to it.

I feel like I made this record as a way to reconnect with myself and my influences, processing years of challenges I’ve had trying to navigate stereotypes or expectations I’ve experienced in the music industry and as a woman in general. Playing on the word DEBUTANTE, this record feels like a debut, shifting from girlhood into adulthood, leaving behind those expectations and the innocence that always made me feel vulnerable. Coming with age or experience, I feel like there are parts of me in these songs that have always been there but I get to express more fully on these tracks, packaged in a genre like rock where confidence and getting pissed off is par for the course.
