Italo-Nigerian artist Morenike releases her debut EP Nobody Knows My Name via French independent label Kwaidan Records.
Born in Ireland, raised in Rome, and now based in Paris, Morenike’s background is the foundation of her music. Classically trained in piano and cello, with a background in jazz vocal studies, her sound is a patchwork of folk, soul, jazz, grunge, trip-hop, and electronic elements.
Nobody Knows My Name explores themes of identity, belonging, and freedom. Unbound by location or genre, the EP mirrors Morenike’s constant shifting and evolving.
“‘Nobody Knows My Name is a five-track EP that mainly explores the concept of identity. I wrote it during a moment in my life where the main question I kept asking myself was: where do I belong? The themes revolve around loneliness, self-discovery, the sense of belonging, and freedom. Sonically, the EP mirrors this journey by blending different influences, ranging from trip-hop to oriental music and R&B.”

Focus track ‘Horses’ is the heart of the EP, a spark of realization: “I was never meant to belong, and there is no place to find.”
Nobody Knows My Name is an introduction to a rising artist, leaving the door open for the next chapter.
“In the end, the EP suggests that the search for identity is not really a destination to reach, but rather an ongoing exploration.”
