Yakkie come on for this, their Kill The Cop Inside Your Head album celebration show, and it kind of feels like everyone’s best friend is collecting an award.

The support and cheers are met with smiling faces – band and audience alike – and you couldn’t ask for a cooler front row: me (obvs), Magda (obvs), Natalie (MilkMaiden) and Camille (A Void)! The entire crowd are people I know from being at the best gigs and, more generally, just being on this fantastic scene and part of the community Yakkie have created.

Yakkie are a full-blown scream that completely rejects the pillow. They articulately sing everything you’ve failed to verbalise due to sheer frustration, and make it real. Anyone out there who considers feminist bands misandrists will wither and sob, as the content is inclusive and not without support for anyone. ‘Right of Reply’ quotes a son after his father killed his sister and mother: “His self pity was worth more than their lives.” All done with the energy and humanising wit it deserves (pushups to the Home And Away theme tune, anyone?)

Yakkie run through ‘Kill The Cop Inside Your Head‘ album from start to finish and I can’t help but wish they’d play it again!!

HTML Jones AKA “Evil rapper sent to destroy the west” is an attitude you have to love. Dancing with politics in a room of solidarity is a great feeling! I remember thinking this is absolutely music I will introduce my cat to when I get home.
