Originating from North Carolina, genre-defying Rainbow Kitten Surprise hit home with their latest single, ‘Sixteen,’ via Atlantic Records.

Embracing the terror of transformation, RKS never shies away from growing past expectations, and that’s on full display in ‘Sixteen.’

This track is slightly different from a lot of what ‘bones’ carries, so we didn’t actually include it on the record but we’re happy that people are going to hear it. Topically it’s a dual thing. One, it’s sort of a fantasy life that’s getting displayed, especially the idea of being the ‘prom queen at sixteen,’ your first prom ever. Two, I think on a more universal level, the song is about triumph over death and the idea that we all still live on past our prime, even past our lifetime. We live on in the memories of people.”

Always shifting and reaching toward the most authentic core, RKS utilizes memory and metamorphosis to show we endure long after our deepest scars. A heartfelt ballad alchemizing the past into endless futures, ‘Sixteen’ shows it’s never too late to live.
