With so much negativity in the world British-Danish artist Iris Gold has released a brand new single ‘Build It Up’, featuring Zimbabwean musician Kotiion. A song about strength, revolution and keeping the future in our mind.
This single is a collaboration with PlanBørnefonden, a Danish organisation fighting for children’s and young peoples rights in more than 80 countries. With key focus on importance of music in driving social change, addressing global challenges and maintaining hope. And this song covers it all. ‘Build It Up’ came from a small moment when Irises son pointed out a flower that had managed to find its way to grow out of a crack in the concreate. A symbol for resilience. A sign that being unstoppable is a choice.
With powerful story telling put in to pop beats and added spice of rap that beautifully flows with the rhythms of the melody its a perfect song to start your day with.
“I wrote ‘Build It Up’ because I needed to believe that we can still create something better together. When the world feels divided, it’s important to actively strive for harmony—and act on it, for example through music,” says Iris Gold.
‘Build It Up’ is part of Iris Gold’s third album Sugar on My Lips, which is out now! With more incredible collaborations and a mix of sounds you want to both dance to and use for reflection, this 12 track album is worth a listen. And for someone that respects artists who route their music in life metaphors, I also enjoyed her description of the album.
“It’s a feeling of freedom that has been suppressed for a long time, so now a whole lot is coming out. Songs that can lift you back up, a boost like an espresso shot.”
Iris Gold is now on tour in Denmark and will be playing the role of Tina in the Tina Turner musical, so it’s definitely worth keeping up with her socials | Instagram | YouTube
