If you’re looking for the sonic equivalent of a neon-lit desert highway at 2:00AM, Austin-based Annabelle Chairlegs fits the bill. The sometimes dreamy, sometimes wailing vocals with gritty guitar riffs transport you to another time and place. Her third album, Waking Up, out today via TODO Records, turns the page on a new chapter for singer/songwriter Lindsey Makin. Previous albums were self-released, but Waking Up brings incredible talent on board, with recording and producing done by Ty Segall. You can expect the fuzz-drenched sound of garage rock, with the special sauce being Mackin’s vocal talent. Joining Mackin on this album are Nick Cornetti on drums and Derek Strahan on bass.

‘ICE CREAM ON THE BEACH’, undoubtedly a standout single, blends retro melodies with high voltage edge that will have you hitting replay. Conversely, my personal favorite, ‘Shoo Fly’ moves away from the dreamy type of register that is synonymous with Mackin. With a chorus like a wall of noise and sharp, rhythmic chanting that builds up like an anxiety attack, ‘Shoo Fly’ is the grit to ‘ICE CREAM ON THE BEACH’ glitz.

The album can be found on streaming services today. Go give it a listen. And if you love it as much as I do, catch Annabelle Chairlegs live in Manchester at the Manchester Psych Fest on September 5, 2026!
