Private Wives from Wollongong blew us away at LOUD WOMEN Fest Sydney last month. They’re charged with anger and grit in the release of their new album, Three of Swords.
By channelling their frustrations surrounding the survival of womanhood into an uninhibited sound, they unapologetically reclaim femininity and the dark emotions that fuel our need for vengeance. A cathartic listen that powers against pain and heartbreak, and heightens their status as ferocious musicians who are unafraid to make themselves heard by all.
The entire album is filled with inspiring tracks but a standout track to me was ‘Blood in the Water’. The collision of vocals and instrumentals worked together to create a hypnotic and eerie sound, simultaneously being beautiful and unsettling.
Repetitive lyrics on the opening track ‘Can you hear me’ and on the closing track ‘Fool’ create a cohesive listening experience where its really reinforced that the girls are making a statement to those who have wounded them and are proving that they won’t be teared down. An audacious album that brings forth an important message about us all taking a more defiant and confident approach to our experiences with femininity.
“THREE OF SWORDS isn’t just an album, it’s a confrontation, a confession, and a reclamation. It’s the sound of heartbreak sharpened into a blade, and of women refusing to let pain be the final word.”

Private Wives’ album Three of Swords is out now, with vinyl and cassette available to purchase through Bandcamp, Farmer & The Owl, and in-store at Music Farmers.
To celebrate and share their untamed sound, they will be touring the East Coast of Australia, so be sure to join in the chaos and make some noise with them.
