London’s fiercest new DIY punk supergroup YAKKIE have unleashed ‘Kill The Cop Inside Your Head’ – and if you caught it at the LOUD WOMEN 10th birthday bash at The Lexington earlier this month, you’ll know it nearly took the roof off. Out now on Bandcamp, and paving the way for their debut album of the same name (out 13 Feb 2026), it’s a snarling, shout-along call to arms for anyone who’s ever battled the voice in their head telling them to play nice.

Frontwoman Janey Starling explains it best:

“The cop in your head will talk you out of your own power before you’ve had a chance to taste it.”

That inner critic telling you to sit down and behave? YAKKIE’s empowering you to tell it to fuck off – and maybe go join your union while you’re at it.

The band is an all-star line-up of DIY scene heroes: Starling (original Dream Nails) on vox, Robin Gatt (Personal Best / Petrol Girls) bringing the heavy guitar, Laura Ankles (Colour Me Wednesday) and Maeve Westall (Itoldyouiwouldeatyou) holding down the rhythm with proper sledgehammer precision.

Recorded fully live to reel-to-reel tape (because of course it was) in just four days, this is raw, real, no-autotune, no-apologies punk rock for the end times. It’s furious, funny, smart as hell – and that’s why it’s our Single of the Week.

Catch YAKKIE live this Friday at the Matchstick Piehouse for the How To Catch A Pig Halloween Party, or with US punks Dead Pioneers in Feb/March 2026.
