Rosemary Schonfeld

Devon singer-songwriter, Rosemary Schonfeld, has unveiled a humorous yet important single ‘Everybody Hates Lesbians’. A track that charts the history of anti-gay and lesbian persecution over the past two thousand years, all within four minutes and twenty-one seconds!

It’s rare a song can make you smile while you learn something new. I discovered that “in the animal kingdom over 1,000 species choose a mate of their own sex” from seagulls to cows. This is the sort of knowledge that should be more widely known. So with the wit of Dorothy Parker accompanied by an upbeat playful accordion, Schonfeld teaches us the history that was conveniently left out of our A-levels.

The song serves as an exciting teaser to her forthcoming rock opera album ‘Sandy and Jean’ (out 3rd October via Absolute Services). If you enjoy the lively punk-folk sounds of bands like Cheap Dirty Horse, or the dramatic musicality of the Dresden Dolls, this is bound to be up your street.
