Two trailblazers of 20th-century music unite dfor a blissfully romantic take on Billy Paul’s classic ‘Me & Mrs Jones.’ The soulful, floaty cover is the second track to be unveiled from Chrissie Hynde‘s upcoming album, Duets Special: Chrissie Hynde & Pals, following a rendition of the much-covered ‘Always On My Mind’ featuring Rufus Wainwright.

The Pretenders frontwoman and jangle pop pioneer first met k.d. lang in the early stages of her career while touring in Canada, but the new single is their first official collaboration. Combining rock vocals with country on a soul song may not seem like the obvious choice, but it’s an undeniable match made in heaven. Their vocals melt into each other effortlessly over a smooth instrumental fit for a jazz lounge.

Lang is just one of a stellar line-up of collaborators rounded up by Hynde for the album, which is set to feature such icons as Debbie Harry, Brandon Flowers, and Shirley Manson.

Duets Special: Chrissie Hynde & Pals will be released on 17 October via Rhino. Preorder and presave here.
