Brighton-based alt rock band Porcelain Doll release their new EP, Beauty and Control (Part 1) – the soundtrack to our Friday.
Beauty and Control (Part 1) is an unfiltered look into the experience of losing control as a woman in today’s society. Dealing with physical and mental pain, frontwoman Freja reclaims her power, showing the unbreakable strength within herself and Porcelain Doll.
“I wrote this EP during 2020 when I was suffering really badly with chronic pain – this along with the pandemic made me feel a real loss of control over my life but I noticed, despite these awful things happening in both my personal life and in the world at large, one of the things I felt constantly focussed on was my weight and appearance. Being raised as a woman this feels like something ingrained in me that I find really hard to let go of. The songs on this EP explore the anger and grief around my own loss of control and feelings around existing in this society as a woman.”
