Formed in Irapuato, Mexico, Las Fokin Biches are coming over to the UK and playing the LOUD WOMEN stage at Rebellion Festival this year. Their feminist punk is exactly what LW is about: it’s in-your-face, it’s political, and it sounds amazing.
Get to know the band …
How did you all meet?
We met in the very old school way, in a very small city called Irapuato. Michell had the idea to form the band and she posted posters looking for girls that could play. It was very hard to find girls playing. Some friends recommended us girls, and some others answered the posters, and we started to unite and jam together. That was back in 2011.
For anyone not familiar with your music, how would you describe your sound?
We call it rockabilly. It’s energetic, dramatic, sarcastic, and provocative. Our ideology is punk, and that’s why we don’t play real punk – we have metal, grunge, ska, and folclor all mixed in the songs.
If you had to recommend one of your songs to a new listener, which one would you choose?
Perras
What can we expect from your set at Rebellion?
We don’t just play music; we create a ritual. We believe in energy and our connection to the universe. We incorporate offerings, incantations and spells into our set, not as mere theatrics, but as genuine acts of intention to amplify the energy in the show.
Expect direct, powerful lyrics in Spanish, and cathartic energy. For us, these songs are also a way to connect and get to know people from new countries.
In short, our Rebellion Festival show will be a ritual where music is the catalyst to challenge convention and celebrate freedom in all its forms. We want the audience to leave feeling inspired, empowered, and, above all, free.
We offer this ritual to cure ourselves from all the problems we live in. We like to go crazy on stage! We get fun with the crowd, but we like to go with the flow so you can expect anything to happen.
You’re playing the Loud Women stage this year. What would you say to someone who maybe doesn’t understand why we still need things like Loud Women?
There are so many awesome female musicians that have no opportunity to show their work or their social context forces them to quit. We’ve been always here, so many women creating, artists trying to get visibility. Besides, I can find a different sensitivity and style of music made by women. It’s awesome once you really dive into the fem art.
Are there any other bands on the line-up you’re particularly looking forward to seeing?
Pussyliquor, WENCH!, anarchistwood, Girlschool, The Exploited.
