Once you’ve heard rising UK cult artist Emily Breeze, you’ll recognise her music a mile away (and you’ll be as addicted as we are). Razor-sharp wit and all the pop punk attitude of Patti Smith and Debby Harry; Emily Breeze is unique in her own variety of sarcastic, lipstick-stained pop noir. She now returns with a brand new album RATS IN PARADISE via Sugar Shack Records, sure to make you laugh, cry, dance and anything in between.

“The title ‘RATS IN PARADISE‘ is from a song by one of my favourite bands, The Birthday Party. I always loved that idea – imagine rats with top hats and canes, dancing in the gutter and having the time of their lives. Very suitable for my songs.” -Emily Breeze

Lead single ‘Fun’ is a sucker-punch of thrashing, sweaty punk and unrestrained hedonism; a smirking recollection of putting fun over responsibility.

“I had fun when you were making money / Fun when you were going to school / Fun when you were getting married / Fun when your divorce came through” -‘Fun’ lyrics

In contrast, ‘Forever Money’ feels like a post-fun ballad, still dripping in hope and delusions of grandeur. Melancholy yet starry-eyed; this track is for the hopeless romantics and dedicated dreamers.

“I had also wanted to shoehorn Del Boy from Only Fools and Horses’ immortal line ‘This time next year, we’ll be millionaires’ into a song for a while, so that made it into the chorus. I was thinking about Fairytale of New York, with those characters who have that sort of tragic delusional hope that I find so romantic and relatable.” -Emily Breeze

Album track ‘Graceland’ swirls with a cutting drone beneath Emily’s poetry-laced lyrics. Idealistic charm oozes from the core, as the song grows more anthemic and climaxes with a sexy-as-hell guitar solo finish.

“The ideal listening situation for Rats in Paradise could be when you have just bet and lost your house and car and kids on a horse and you are lighting up a Hamlet Cigar thinking ahhhhhh fuck it, never mind.” -Emily Breeze

Emily Breeze is the underground fantasist to inspire anyone who doesn’t fit the mould. Eccentric, spicy and scintillating.
