Iconic Canadian experimental alt-rockers Mother Mother have returned with their 10th studio album Nostalgia out now via Parlophone/Warner Music.
Perhaps aptly named, Nostalgia is somewhat of a return to Mother Mother’s earlier sound, but continues to push their musicality and lyricism. Whether you came to know Mother Mother through their viral Tik-Tok hits, or have followed them since the beginning, this record has something for everyone.
One of my favorite tracks has to be ‘Station Wagon’. It has a cinematic, mystical quality and showcases their incredible vocal harmonies.
Something that makes Mother Mother special is the way the three vocalists, Molly and Ryan Guldemond, and Jasmin Parkin play off one another. But what I like about the track ‘Better of Me’ is that is highlights Jasmin and Molly’s vocals.
Another track that comes early on in the album, ‘Make Believe’, is a great example of Mother Mother’s sound. It reminds me a bit of their earworm ‘Hayloft’ and is catchy, driving, and a nod to their continued creativity.
As is common with this band, the production and sonic quality is just phenomenal. Everything is so crisp and well represented, and it’s bliss for the earbuds. Go check it out, and see them live this summer.
