Heading to the LOUD WOMEN stage at Rebellion Festival this summer, and it’s time to meet Keighley fuzz-punks Goo. We featured them last year in the run-up to Manchester Punk Festival, and they’ve gone from strength-to-strength over the past year, including touring with Pup and Illuminati Hotties, and performing on BBC Introducing.

Frontwoman Tanisha was kind enough to join us once again to answer a few questions…

Firstly, how did you all meet and when was Goo formed?

We met at gigs seeing each others old/other bands at a venue in Keighley called The Exchange. It’s a real shame the venue isn’t there anymore, the Keighley music scene owes a lot of credit to The Exchange and the 10+ years it provided for local bands and music fans.

For anyone not familiar with your music, how would you describe your sound?

I would describe us as indie-punk-pop mash up. We’re influenced by bands like Pavement, The Beths, The Strokes, The Breeders, and I think all of that comes through in the music we write.

If you had to recommend one of your songs to a new listener, which one would you choose?

I would recommend ‘Tiny Dinosaur That Only I Can See‘. I think that song captures the direction we’re headed in and sort of sums us up in a way. It’s also a song very close to my heart as I wrote it as a tribute to a childhood friend of mine who sadly died by suicide a couple of years ago. The inspiration is heavy but the music and lyrics are quite uplifting.

What can we expect from your set at Rebellion?

We’re gonna bring a mix of high energy punk with a dash of heartfelt 90s nostalgia.

You’re playing the LOUD WOMEN stage this year. What would you say to someone who maybe doesn’t understand why we still need things like LOUD WOMEN?

LOUD WOMEN are doing an excellent job of showcasing women and gender non-conforming musicians and creatives. They’re spotlighting incredible people and supporting them in a dog eat dog industry. They might just introduce you to your new favourite band!

Are there any other bands on the line-up you’re particularly looking forward to seeing?

Super excited to see The Lovely Eggs! And Dead Sheep are gonna do big things, eager to see them live. Of course a few of the big ones, The Damned, The Undertones and our hometown pals Random Hand

You recently supported Pup on their UK dates. How did that go?

It was absolutely unreal! A true privilege to be touring with such a great band. It was really cool to play to crowds that size that still have that DIY punk feel, everyone was looking after each-other and screaming along to all the songs. And on top of that to also be sharing a stage with tenderpunk icons Illuminati Hotties, that was the cherry on top of an incredible experience. Hearing great music every night, hanging out with cool people and playing in venues like that all over the UK was an honour.

What else are you up to this year – any tours/festivals/releases you want to tell us about?

We have a few gigs dotted about for the next couple of months but we’re hoping to head out around the UK again towards the end of the year. We’re currently working on our debut album too so we’ll be in and out of the studio over the next few months which we’re looking forward to.

And finally, is there anything else you’d like to add?

We can’t wait to play Rebellion, we’ll see you in the pit somewhere!

Thank you so much to Tanisha for answering these questions!
