Rising Irish alt-rock band Monday’s Child releases debut EP Modern Affair.
Based in Belfast, Monday’s child is formed by the McKay sisters Jen, Lauren and Clara with friend Caitlin Lenfestey on drums.
Modern Affair is an EP that transports you to the past while staying modern and exciting. Known for their nostalgic sound of grunge, rock, and full blown angst, Monday’s Child doesn’t disappoint on this stellar EP.
Vocalist Jen McKay shares the following about origins of Modern Affair:
“Growing up with influences predominantly from the pre-social media age you tend to idealise this world where the music mattered more than views or streams, and connections made with people were organic. Trying to foster these connections and confrontations with the modern world through our writing and performing has helped us break through the fourth wall in a way. We all put a lot of pressure on ourselves but writing and recording this EP among the madness of our daily lives gave us a new perspective on our roles in the world and where we want to concentrate our energies.”
“The EP reflects our experience since forming the band and battling the pressures of modern life. We’re always striving to improve and while keeping up with the pace of the world can feel exhausting, we’re proud of the progress we’ve made as a band and are always trying to keep in mind that life is not a race – we can do things our own way and get by just fine. Trying not to compare and keeping the focus on what’s important to us, these songs are an ode to getting through the hard days, while trying not to take it all too seriously.”
