Ahead of a long series of iconic festival appearances, Leeds-based alternative band Artio has dropped their new single ‘Split Soul’.

‘Split Soul’ is a synth-heavy, pop-punk, alternative song that focuses on the way we often have to fall apart to become who we really are. A common topic amongst queer bands, this song confronts the dilemma of following your own intuition or sticking to a status quo, even if it kills you.

“’Split Soul’ explores the ideas of bodily autonomy, purpose and navigating your destiny. Toying with the ideas of divine intervention or forging your own path, the fear of the unknown and the pressure to show up regardless of the horrors in your head.”

Rae Brazill (they/them)’s soulful vocals are a stark contrast to the visceral lyrics but they deliver on a track that manages to be meaningful and an earworm. Lead guitarist Rob Arkle (he/him), rhythm guitarist Jai Akhurst (they/them), and drummer/producer Ieuan Jones (he/him) are able to provide danceable riffs with ethereal breaks in between. An impressive release especially when you take into account that Artio is a diy outfit; self producing, directing, and hand making their looks. This band can seemingly do it all.
