Newcastle Upon Tyne-based experimental musician Me Lost Me has released an atmospheric invocation to individuality in her latest single, ‘Compromise!’ via Upset The Rhythm.
Me Lost Me is the project of artist Jayne Dent and this single is only the beginning. A poetic, ambient-drone folk hybrid, ‘Compromise!’ is the first release from her forthcoming album, This Material Moment, and aptly sets the stage for the rich depths to come. Me Lost Me bravely questions the toll we pay to assimilate rather than hone our own identities and if it’s worth the price.
To me, it is about heteronormative and capitalist expectations and definitions of success, how they can limit us and take us away from passions and joys and the things that make us human. It is about the fear of being trapped in that cycle of performing a life, rather than living a life, about architecture, comfort, safety, domesticity, wildness and freedom. It’s about compromising and its consequences, both good and bad.”

The video, fully crafted by the artist, introduces us to an intangible, dream-like world. An ethereal plane where the leading figure, a floating statue head, glides through looping realms of an esoteric landscape strewn with debris and populated by cloned effigies of our protagonist. Eccentric and meditative, ‘Compromise!’ asks you to crawl into your soul to see what’s inside.
Through chant-like poetry, Me Lost Me pulls you into deep thought and swelling instrumentals that feel transcendental and beautifully otherworldly. If you’re a fan of avant-garde and storytelling tracks, ‘Compromise!’ will have something for you.
