Ariel Allen Lubman has gained a whirlwind of online hype for their artistic persona Boy Jr., creating high energy electronic music through the lens of a genderqueer person on a journey of self discovery. Their latest single ‘Zitty Stardust’ is possibly their boldest proclamation yet.

The American artist reached great heights with their last album I Love Getting Dumped! As a genderqueer independent artist, their unapologetic celebration of queer joy is a refreshing reminder that happiness is the truest form of rebellion.

‘Zitty Stardust’ discusses their navigation of the transitioning process upon starting HRT and the gender euphoria they experienced. The title of the song roots from a comment on Lubman’s social media attempting to ridicule them for the acne they had as a side effect of the HRT; it was Lubman’s idea to turn this insult on it’s head and say ‘that sounds cool’.

Boy Jr. is such a strong artistic project as they write songs that other people are perhaps afraid to write, resonating with the masses that often get swept under the rug. In the face of the current political climate regarding trans rights, it is more important than ever to celebrate trans joy.
